Located just east of the village of Gouverneur,
the Gouverneur Country Club is nestled in the bucolic countryside
of the Town of Fowler. It was established in 1930 when
B.O. Kinney, a local entrepreneur, acting as a representative
of the newly formed Gouverneur Country Club, finalized
the purchase of the Manning farm at Hailesboro on June
25, 1930.
Golf
architect, Sherrill Sherman, from Utica was immediately
engaged “to get the grounds ready for golf purposes.” Although
some play was noticed during the fall of 1930, the club
did not officially open until 1931.
The clubhouse, which was the original farm
barn, was remodeled and officially opened on June 22,
1932. It has since
had two major renovations to modernize the first floor
Pro Shop and second floor restaurant, while blending “tradition
and progress.”
When arriving, patrons will
enjoy the friendly greeting by our staff in our well-stocked
Pro Shop. Following golf or just taking time off from a
busy day, they can enjoy a casual meal or beverage in the
second floor restaurant while marveling at the beauty of
the course or the evening sunset.
The nine-hole course with 18 tees is characterized
by its hilly landscape and undulating greens. The 6379-yard
layout plays to a rating/slope of 70.1/122 and is considered
a challenge by both the amateur and expert golfer. |
